Students in Years 7 and 8 take part in creative activities like robot programming
Students are asked for their comments at the end of the programme through an anonymous survey. The students who completed it told us how they felt about their experience:
STEM Academy runs for five sessions in the Spring Term and is aimed at up to 40 pupils in Years 7 and 8 attending local state secondary schools, who have an aptitude for or interest in STEM subjects. The course develops problem-solving and lateral thinking skills whilst engaging in creative activities like coding and programming.
The STEM course mimics the design and engineering process used by scientists and engineers in industry today, encouraging students to use creative problem-solving to tackle challenges presented to them. Alumni and partners also join us for inspirational careers talks for students to learn more about STEM opportunities.
STEM Academy is run on-site at Latymer Upper School, using our IT and Science facilities and equipment. The sessions are delivered by Latymer teaching and technician staff and supported by Y12 students. The sessions are free to take part in, with the staffing and equipment costs generously covered by a donor.
