Around the World in 80 Plants with Jonathan Drori

29th April 2021 from 7-8pm

Zoom: Evening Talk

Jonathan Drori  (1979), is a Trustee of The Eden Project and Cambridge Science Centre, an Ambassador for the WWF and former Trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Woodland Trust. Jon was also Executive Producer of more than fifty prime-time science documentaries and popular series for the BBC. In January 2021 he was appointed an Honorary Professor at the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research. His first book, Around the World in 80 Trees, was published to critical acclaim in 2018, and has sold over 120,000 copies in 14 languages. It was the winner of the 2018 Woodland Book of the Year Award.

In this talk, coinciding with the publication of his new book, Around the World in 80 Plants, Jon will take us on a fascinating botanical journey celebrating the lives and biology of plants and how they are intertwined with human culture, history and folklore. From the seemingly familiar, to the bizarre and downright regrettable, Jon will share old superstitions, latest science and some of the useful things he never managed to learn at school.
