Does Art Matter? Event

Does Art Matter?

3rd February 2022 from 6.30-8.30pm | 7-8pm (Online)

Latymer Main Hall

In a first for Latymer, we are delighted to welcome three leading art specialists with senior roles in public galleries, museums and the art market, to discuss the current state of the arts, and look to the future. They hope to answer the question - does art matter?

The discussion will be chaired by Letizia Treves, Curator of Later Italian, Spanish and French 17th-century Paintings at the National Gallery. After a successful career at Sotheby’s, Letizia moved to the National Gallery, where she recently curated the ground-breaking Artemisia exhibition, the first exhibition in the UK to be devoted to the artist.

Xavier Bray is the Director of the Wallace Collection, one of the most significant ensembles of fine and decorative arts in the world. A specialist in Spanish art, his most recent exhibition is devoted to the male portraits of Franz Hals.

Andrew Fletcher is soon to join Christies as global head of Old Master Paintings, having been Head of Old Master Paintings at Sotheby’s for many years, where he was instrumental in developing the Old Master market in Asia.

Please join us for a fascinating and unique insight into the both the current art world, and how that world may look in the future.

This will be a hybrid event, both in person at Latymer and live-streamed on the night. Please note that only in person audience members will be able to ask questions on the night.
