A Festive Evening of Carols and Jazz

Join us for a truly magical evening of mulled wine, Christmas carols and jazz on Thursday 2 December, 7-8pm in the Recital Hall at Latymer. 

This will be a wonderfully festive way to end this term with Freya Parry (Class of 2016), Latymerian parent Sandy Burnett and Mark Wallace (Teacher of Economics at LUS), together with Upper Sixth students Oscar Reinstein and Stanley Fleet

They will play timeless winter classics from bop to swing, sprinkled with some new hits to get you into the Christmas spirit!

 

Our performers: 

Freya Parry (class of 2016) currently works as an Artist Manager for the classical music agency Askonas Holt, whilst also singing part-time. She studied at the University of Manchester where she was involved in plays, operas, musicals, jazz bands, choirs, orchestras, and chamber groups. She has played a variety of operatic and musical theatre roles including Adelaide in Jonathan Dove's 'The Enchanted Pig', Little Red Riding Hood in ‘Into the Woods’, and Jo March in ‘Little Women’.  She is delighted to be returning to her alma mater for this special evening!

Sandy Burnett, Latymerian parent, is one of the UK’s most versatile music commentators, enjoying a career that combines broadcasting, performing, and lecturing. After studying at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge and working as music director for the RSC, National Theatre and in London’s West End, Sandy spent a decade as one of the core team of presenters on BBC Radio 3. He devises and leads cultural holidays all over the world, is the author of the Idler Guide to Classical Music, is a highly sought-after double bassist on the London jazz scene and was appointed the Academy of Ancient Music’s Hogwood Fellow for the 2018-19 season. During lockdown he established an online weekly Listening Club to discuss great works of classical music.

Mark Wallace is our former Head of Economics and is still teaching here, Mark is a highly accomplished jazz pianist who has accompanied many of the UK’s jazz legends such as Digby Fairweather and Roy Williams . He also conducts the Aston University Chorus.

 

This event will be hybrid; you are welcome to experience the live concert in person and to enjoy some warm mince pies and hot mulled wine in the bar beforehand OR you can watch it from the comfort of your home through a live stream!
