Jan Balon is the Headteacher of the London Academy of Excellence in Tottenham - an academically selective free school that is backed by both independent schools and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
After Latymer, Jan went on to complete a Politics degree at the University of Warwick. Jan then got into teaching through the Teach First programme and subsequently taught Humanities in schools in Tottenham and Edmonton, latterly as Vice Principal for the Curriculum at a large 11-18 Comprehensive - a position he held for three years.
On 1st January 2017, Jan was appointed as Headteacher of the (then newly opened) London Academy of Excellence, Tottenham. The London Academy of Excellence (LAE) Tottenham is a sixth form free school in the London borough of Haringey. LAE Tottenham's principal education sponsor is Highgate School and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club acts as the Business Sponsor. The mission of the school is to provide students with a first class academic education in the heart of Haringey.
"I think it's difficult to know how school shapes you as a person, but having worked in education for a number of years I can look back on my time at Latymer and reflect. Most importantly there is the fantastic education and inspiring teachers, but alongside that there is the sense that you should feel grateful and want to do your best when you leave Latymer for the greater good of society."
